KABRANG COLLECTION
KABRANG
The Thread, The Myth, and Our Story, Summer 2026
With a responsibility to approach Khurkhul silk with the same reverence with which it is made, 11 Tareng chose to work closely with a small group of skilled weavers from Khurkhul. This created a cohesive ecosystem that honours their traditions while allowing this remarkable silk to enter the larger world of fashion and textiles with dignity and care.
The collection derives from the key codes of traditional Manipuri attire, balancing softness and structure through fluid yet sculptural forms. The soft drapes, dramatic frills and quiet tubular structures seen and worn in everyday attire are interpreted in skirts, pants and dresses.
Every motif holds meaning and every design pays a homage to what was, and still is, worn in Manipur today, retold in 11 Tareng’s design language. From the soft, draped shirts (inspired by the Phee) to structured Phige Phanek skirts and pants, a series of looks featuring the Kajenlei inspired surface ornamentation embodying the "Fire Halo" of the Meitei tradition are represented in the lineups.
The Aesthetic Keynotes
* Fluid vs. Structural: Balancing the soft drape of the Phee with the tubular structure of the Mapan Naiba.
* Sacred Materials: A focus on the "purity" of the Khurkhul silk and the vibrant design of the Kajenlei as the inspiration behind embellishment.
* The Language of Weaves: The use of Kheiroithek—a distinctive zig-zag pattern inspired by the movement of a squirrel—introduces rhythm and storytelling into the textiles.
* Local/Global: The silhouettes are inspired by traditional Manipuri attire, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens to balance heritage with modernity.
